Parking at Downey, explained

Most Porto's bakeries rely on surface lots that fill fast on weekends. Downey was designed with a two-story garage from the start, so you are less likely to circle the block. Kirbie's Cravings, a food blog that has visited several Porto's, called the dedicated parking the main difference from the Glendale and Burbank bakeries.

Lines still happen. Even on quiet afternoons, waits of around half an hour inside the building have been reported, so a pre-order is the fastest way in and out. Online pickup orders close at 6:00 PM and reopen at 10:00 PM for later days.

How the Downey bakery came to be

In 2010 the Downey Patriot reported that a city councilman had invited owner Raul Porto to consider Downey. The family committed more than $14 million to a 15,000 square foot building on Firestone Boulevard, which opened that November as the third Porto's after Glendale and Burbank.

Downey questions

Does Porto's Downey have parking?

Yes. Downey was built with a two-story parking garage, which makes it one of the easiest Porto's bakeries to park at.

Why did Porto's open in Downey?

Local reporting at the time says a Downey city councilman invited Raul Porto to look at the city, and the family went on to build its third bakery on Firestone Boulevard.

Is the Downey menu the same as other Porto's?

Prices are identical. In October 2026 Downey also listed a few seasonal items not offered everywhere, such as Rosa's Cuban Pineapple Cake by the slice.
